Butt Detective Clue Game
I
have never thought of writing something about this children game. I did not
even know it exists until I walked into Toys “Я”Us over the last weekend.
My kids
like Butt Detective. It is a Japanese cartoon that is almost unheard in the western
world. But in Hongkong, it is a great hit. Many children here loves this cute peach-face
detective in Sherlock Holmes disguise. Okay, let me put it straight. His face
is not a peach but a butt. And he drinks tea with his ass. Disgusting? Kids
just like this.
Funny
that this game is not from Japan but Korea. Mini World is a big toy
manufacturer in Korea which starts as a small retail shop back in the 70s. Their
main products are not table top games, but dolls and other children toys. This Butt
Detective Clue Game is one of their few card games. I browsed through their website and found some others that look like board games or card games. But the
descriptions are all in Korean so I have no idea what those games are about.
Butt
Detective Clue Game contains 50 cards. In which 44 of them are “clue cards” and
6 are function cards. Clue cards are divided into 4 colours, or suits. In
addition, there is a 40cm x 40cm game mat, 4 “mission cardboards” and 12 “golden
butt” medals, for score keeping. There is no separate instruction booklet.
Rules are printed on the mat. With the mat, kids can easily refer to the rules
while playing. However, the game can be played without a mat. So, it is a pure
card game.
As I
cannot find any English video about this game or anything with English
subtitles, I will explain more on the game play.
It
is a simple set collecting game and winning depends mostly on luck. There are
only 6 function cards in the game and even one of it is a wild card. Strategy is
limited. But my kids like this game a lot as they can find many characters and
places from the cartoon appearing on the cards. For adults, this game is just a
bit boring.
