Talking about simple roll-and-write dice game, Yahtzee is something that shouldn’t be neglected. Similar to Farkel, Yahtzee is originated from a traditional game called Yacht. It is also very similar to another traditional game Yatzy. Someone twisted the original game a little bit, rebrand it and now, Yahtzee is under the big boss Hasbro.
But
Hasbro did give Yacht more twist than Mr. Farkel did to Farkle. A whole upper
section was added to the original’s score sheet. This makes Yahtzee more fun
than the traditional Yacht.
Although
originated from a traditional game, Yahtzee itself has decades of history in
America. It was first published in 1956 by Milton Bradley. Many of the
Americans have played this game in their childhood. But in my country, Yahtzee
is almost unheard. The British did not bring this game to our city. I only saw
it once or twice in the Toy’s “Я”Us here, but soon it disappeared.
The
one I bought from Amazon is the classic version. It comes in a big box but
there are not much components inside. I think the packing reflects the values
of consumers in the 50s. At that time, big simply means worth buying.
The
game includes 5 standard d6 dice, a score pad, 8 bonus chips (4 red, 4 yellow),
instruction sheet and a dice cup with the original aluminum rim.
