01-007 L.A.M.A.

01-007
L.A.M.A.

I start crossing the Atlantic Ocean for Germany to expand my card game collection. Germany has a strong tradition with respect to card games. And in recent decades, they developed a complete new gene of card games called German-style card game. L.A.M.A. is among them.

German-style card games receive a high respect in my culture. Maybe German does not view their card games in such a way. But in our eyes, these are games played by the elites. Hearts, bridge, poker, or UNO, DOS, Monopoly Deal, etc. are for the general public. Educated people? They play Bohnanza, 6 nimmt!, or Dominion. Because of this, German-style card games are normally sold at a higher price than American card games here. A pack of Monopoly Deal is selling at around US$ 7. But a pack of L.A.M.A. with less number of cards is selling at US$ 13.

As long as there are demands, there are suppliers. Many of the German-style card games get their Chinese translation here, both authorized and bootleg.

I found this game while searching card games similar to UNO. It is a popular game here. My copy is a local version printed by a local game publisher Broadway. And it is authorized by the German game publisher Amigo. You can find both logos of Broadway and Amigo on the box. Instructions are bilingual.

L.A.M.A.

It is a quick game and the game play is easy. It is a shedding game, like UNO. The first to get rid of their cards wins the game. The cards are colourful and the L.A.M.A. card just looks cute. My daughter like this game so much.

Hacking

The game can be hacked by using 2 identical standard decks of playing cards, perfectly in bridge size.

Ignore the suits. Assume A’s are 1s, and 2s are 2s etc. So, the highest number cards we keep are 6s. And treat Queens as L.A.M.A.s. Put all other cards aside. The chips are not important. They are for score keeping can be done by paper and pen.
